8-man Nebraska quarterback Wyatt Frey earns Northwestern scholarship

The Northwestern Wildcats extended an offer to class of 2027 Nebraska native Wyatt Frey. The 8-man quarterback made the announcement on Monday. The offer from the Wildcats is the first Big Ten scholarship the in-state prospect has received.

Frey currently plays at Lawrence-Nelson High School and is seeing his profile continue to grow. He is a dual-threat quarterback who had tremendous success for Lawrence-Nelson last season.

He threw for 937 yards and 12 touchdowns, and proved to be highly effective running the football. He rushed for 1,258 yards and 19 touchdowns as well, showcasing his dual-threat ability.

Frey also played on the defensive side of football, recording 44 tackles and six interceptions last season. He first made a major splash in 2023, when he threw for 1,546 yards, 31 touchdowns, and nine interceptions as a quarterback at Red Cloud High School.

It will be interesting to see if the Huskers get involved in this recruitment at some point. They currently have talent at the quarterback position for the future, in what is a loaded room overall.
