Colorado football and head coach Deion Sanders picked up a commitment from top-ranked class of 2026 linebacker Rodney Colton Jr. on Saturday night.
Colton, a coveted four-star linebacker, immediately becomes the highest-rated recruit to commit to Sanders’ class of 2026 cohort. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound defensive playmaker chose the Buffaloes over his other finalists, Florida State and Ole Miss.
The Newnan, Georgia, native visited Boulder on June 20, and the Buffs seemed like the favorites ever since. Colton also took official visits to Ole Miss, Florida State, Penn State, UCLA and SMU, which indicates the number of big-time programs in the running for his signature.
247Sports Composite ranks Colton as the No. 303 player in the nation, No. 21 linebacker and the No. 36 player from his home state of Georgia.
Colorado’s class of 2026 now rises to nine commitments as Deion Sanders and staff continue a hot start to the month. Five commitments have joined the class since July 1, as it is now ranked No. 79 nationally. Colton is the program’s second blue-chip recruit, with four-star cornerback Preston Ashley being the other.
Despite CU’s class still ranking last in the Big 12, Colton’s commitment, arguably the most significant of the current cycle, adds to the recruiting momentum that has been with the Buffs since late June.
