Getting to the SEC championship game for Georgia football last season, let alone winning it, was no small achievement considering the road gauntlet the Bulldogs had to navigate, highlighted by games at Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss.
The 2025 SEC schedule keeps the same opponents this season. They are just flipped on where they are played.
So what’s the toughest road game for Georgia?
Tennessee in week 3 for a 3:30 p.m. game on Sept. 13? Or is it going to Auburn on Oct. 11 at night?
“Being in the SEC, being on the road it’s hard no matter who you play,” Georgia linebacker CJ Allen said.
Gunner Stockton, who is expected to start under center for the Bulldogs, played on high-stakes stages at the end of last season in the SEC championship game and Sugar Bowl College Football Playoff quarterfinal after Carson Beck sustained an elbow injury, but the quarterback has not taken a snap in a true road game.
He mentioned he’s experienced that environment the last few seasons from the sideline.
“That’s the kind of moments you thrive for and dream of,” Stockton said. “I’m excited. Can’t wait.”
Stockton experienced playing on the road at Rabun County High. He was asked what the toughest road environment was.
“I don’t even like to say it, but Thomasville,” Stockton. “They beat us twice.”
Thomasville beat Rabun County, 49-24, in the state quarterfinals in 2021
“It’s hard to play on the road in the SEC,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “Ask me because we went to three really tough places last year — four when you include the road game we had at Kentucky early in the season (a 13-12 win).”
Tennessee is 20-1 at home the last three seasons. That includes a pair of victories over Alabama that produced field storms.
