Texas A&M HC Mike Elko is ‘excited’ to watch QB Marcel Reed in 2025

Any success Texas A&M sees during the 2025 season does not entirely rest on starting quarterback Marcel Reed, given the Aggies’ strength at running back and the return of all five offensive linemen to the trenches, while the additions of wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver should help improve the passing attack that lacked juice throughout the 2024 campaign.

During Texas A&M’s SEC media days appearance on Thursday, head coach Mike Elko made his way to the podium to take questions from both national and Aggie media members, with a focus on spreading the word that the football program is on the rise, and slowly, but steadily, building towards becoming a consistent contender in the SEC.

After praising several members of the 2025 roster, Elko couldn’t hold back his excitement to discuss Marcel Reed’s improvement this offseason, first stating that any struggles the redshirt sophomore dealt with last season were primarily due to being thrown in the fire after former starter Conner Weigman, now with Houston, sat on the sidelines due to his shoulder injury.

“He did not go into the year as the starter, and that makes it really challenging to step into the huddle as a leader.”

“He’s a guy people want to play for and want to play with.”

For those who doubt that KC Concepcion, Mario Craver, and tight end Amari Niblack simply chose Texas A&M for NIL reasons, Elko’s brief story regarding Concepcion’s visit to College Station during his time in the portal was focused on attending practices and watching Marcel Reed throw.
