Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell recently agreed to a contract extension that would keep him with the Cyclones through 2032.
The full details of Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell’s contract extension that keeps him with the Cyclones through 2032 have been released.
Campbell initially agreed to the extension back in December. The new contract, which was made available on Aug. 1, was obtained through an open-records request. The contract was signed and dated by Campbell on July 22 and it went into effect earlier this year on Jan. 1. Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard inked his signature on July 11, and university president Dr. Wendy Wintersteen co-signed and dated the document on July 15.
Campbell is entering his 10th season as head coach. Last season, he became the program’s winningest coach during the Cyclones’ historic 11-3 campaign. They capped the year with a 42-41 win over Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, marking the third bowl game victory since Campbell arrived in 2016.
Before Campbell, Iowa State had only three bowl game victories since its first appearance in 1971.
Matt Campbell’s new salary
Campbell’s base salary plus additional compensation increased to $5 million per year. It was previously raised from an annual total compensation of $3.5 million to $4 million in 2021.
It’s a modest increase for Campbell, after solidifying himself as the program’s winningest coach and a historic 11-win season. According to USA Today’s college football head coaching salaries database released last year for the 2024 season, the Iowa State coach ranked 10th in the Big 12.
This new salary would push up into the top half of the conference, behind the likes of Oklahoma…
