Virginia Tech is riding plenty of momentum on the recruiting trail into the start of the college football season.
The Hokies have secured a commitment from Cole Bergeron, previously the top uncommitted quarterback in the 2026 class, who pledged to Virginia Tech over Colorado and Georgia Tech on Thursday.
The Rivals Industry Ranking’s No. 38-ranked quarterback out of Lafayette (La.) St. Thomas More in Louisiana worked out for Brent Pry, Philip Montgomery and Brian Crist in June and returned back home with an offer.
No team has recruited Bergeron harder over the summer than Virginia Tech, which checked off every single box for the touted 2026 passer and his family as they navigated his recruiting process.
“I can see myself thriving with these guys in this offense,” Bergeron told Rivals. “Coach Pry is passionate about Virginia Tech … You can tell how much he cares about this program and his players.”
Hokies went ‘all out’ for Bergeron
Since working out in Blacksburg in June, multiple members of the Virginia Tech coaching staff has placed the full-court press on Bergeron.
That includes Pry, Montgomery and Crist — who started to pull away from the pack as August arrived.
“Virginia Tech made a strong push,” Bergeron detailed. “The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. I felt really comfortable spending time with them in Blacksburg. My dad told Coach Montgomery to run me through everything he expects a quarterback in his system to do, and he did. From that workout in the morning to the camp that afternoon, I felt like I got a true evaluation. Coach Pry was open and honest about the program and where I fit.”
