It’s the most important position in football and the one that everyone wants to talk about. So of course in our FINAL edition of annual position preview series, we’re looking at quarterback.
This college football season is a bit of a reset year, with most of the top teams in the country breaking in new quarterbacks. The Aggies don’t have that problem. They have the luxury of bringing back the QB that started the last five games of the season in 2024 and has the full support of his teammates and coaches.
What other names should we know?
With so much turnover at quarterback across the country, simply having a returning starter is a plus. The depth here is very solid with Zeno providing a ton of experience and O’Neill having over a full year in the system now. But it’s Marcel Reed’s time to shine. He went through the fire last year, starting road games at South Carolina and Auburn (both of which were night games). With a full offseason as the starter and Collin Klein designing the offense with his skillset in mind, I expect to see a significant jump in Reed’s performance. More importantly, Reed doesn’t have to be Superman for the Aggies to have success. The offensive line is experienced as ever and has great depth, running backs Le’Veon Moss and Rueben Owens appear to be back to full strength, and the receiver room is night and day compared to last year. With those factors in mind, A&M just needs Marcel to be efficient and protect the football. If he can do that, he could have a special year.
