Pundits aren’t really sure what to expect from the Michigan football defense in 2025 with several key pieces from last year’s team (Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, Will Johnson, and Josaiah Stewart) all gone to the NFL. But Sherrone Moore is warning those who are in doubt: it’s still going to be really good on that side of the ball.
Appearing on BTN on Friday as part of the network’s fall camp tour, Moore spoke about the defensive side of the ball, and he pointed to the standout performance in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama, where the Wolverines held the Crimson Tide to just 13 points, despite not having any of the aforementioned players. Moore says that that defense will be what fans see this year.
“Yeah, I think what you saw in the bowl game is really what you’re going to get,” Moore said. “A lot of those guys that played in the bowl game are going to play this year. And even with the additions of some guys that we got in the portal like T.J. Metcalf, Tré Williams, Damon Payne, some older guys that have played a lot of football, but with the guys that we have here, so we’re really excited about this defense. They’re fast, they’re physical, and it comes in waves.
“Talking to Coach Martindale the other day, it’s like trying to figure out what’s the depth chart. There really is none. It’s just 1A, 1B, and the guys that practice the best that week start, and everybody plays, so it’s going to be fun to watch.”
Fans will get their first opportunity to see the Michigan football defense in action in 2025 on August 30 at The Big House when the Wolverines host New Mexico.
