Oregon’s Bassa and Conerly honored by opposing players in Senior Bowl

It’s one thing to be named the top player at your position by the media and the coaches, but to be so named by your peers is something else altogether.

Oregon Ducks linebacker Jeffrey Bassa was named the top linebacker during this week’s practices at the Reese’s Senior Bowl by opposing offensive linemen, running backs, and tight ends. He was awarded the distinction at the Practice Player-of-the-Week awards ceremony Friday afternoon. The actual game takes place Feb. 1 in Mobile, Ala.

It’s not surprising this is the case for Bassa, who just finished up a nice career at Oregon, culminating in an outstanding senior season where he was named Honorable Mention in Bassa’s first and only season playing in the Big Ten.

Bassa led an Oregon defense that was instrumental in the Ducks winning the Big Ten championship and a perfect 12-0 regular season. He had 54 tackles, three for loss, and 1.5 sacks in 2024. In his career, Bassa accumulated 236 tackles, 14 for loss and 4.5 sacks. He also had three career interceptions, one going for a touchdown.

Oregon’s former offensive lineman Josh Conerly, Jr., who is having a heck of a week in Mobile and improving his draft stock by the day, also earned honors. He earned a similar honor as Bassa, only this time opposing defensive linemen and linebackers voted him the top offensive lineman.
