LSU football is one of the few programs in college football that expects to make the playoff every year. However, the Tigers’ last appearance was 2019.
One college football commentator sees that changing in 2025. On3’s JD Pickell appeared on the Paul Finebaum show, and he called his shot regarding LSU’s playoff chances this fall.
“I know it’s February, we try to steer clear of predictions in the month of February when it comes to next season. But LSU is going to be a playoff team, Paul, I’m calling it right now,” Pickell said.
Pickell highlights LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier as the conference’s leading returning passer.
“I love what they did via the portal. I love Brian Kelly going into year four. I love what they did on defense,” Pickell added.
LSU had two first-year coordinators in 2024, but now the Tigers have continuity at those spots. That’s another reason why Pickell is high on LSU.
“I just love the direction of LSU,” Pickel said.
Pickel won’t be the LSU one buying LSU stock in 2025. Nussmeier’s return, along with college football’s top-ranked transfer portal class, will lead to high expectations for Brian Kelly’s Tigers.
LSU will begin its 2025 schedule on the road at Clemson. LSU will be looking to win its first season opener since 2019.
