USC’s Makai Lemon ranked as No. 25 Big Ten player for 2025

Believe it or not, the start of the 2025 college football season is just around the corner. USC will kick off its new campaign in under seven weeks, when the Trojans host Missouri State at the Coliseum.

This past week, The Athletic put out a ranking of their top 25 players in the Big Ten heading into the 2025 college football season. Just one USC player made the rankings, with wide receiver Makai Lemon rounding out the list at No. 25.

Here is what writer Manny Navarro had to say about Lemon:

“The 5-11, 195-pound junior and former top-100 recruit started only six games but still led the Trojans with 52 catches for 764 yards and three touchdowns,” Navarro wrote. “He was also valuable on kickoff returns.”

Interestingly, the top player on the list to have played for the Trojans was actually former USC offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon, who came in at No. 18. Pregnon transferred to conference foe Oregon during the offseason, much to the frustration of USC fans.

Given that just one Trojan made their ranking of the top 25 players in the conference, it seems as though The Athletic’s expectations for USC this fall are not particularly high. It will be up to head coach Lincoln Riley and company to prove them wrong.
