West Alabama hires former Alabama quarterback as their new wide receivers coach

Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Blake Sims will start a new chapter of his life this year as he was just named the wide receivers coach for the University of West Alabama.

Since leaving Tuscaloosa a decade ago, Sims has bounced around from the Canadian Football League, to the National Gridiron League in Australia, to the NFL, to arena league football leagues before hanging it up at the end of 2022. Sims took his first crack at coaching in 2023 where he was an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy in Marietta, GA, but will now get an opportunity at the college level.

Despite only being a one-year starter at Alabama, Sims was always very popular amongst the fan base as he spent the first three years of his college career playing running back before switching to quarterback in 2014. In his lone season as the starting quarterback, Sims was sensational, setting the Alabama single season passing yards record with 3,487 and guided Alabama to CFP semi-final appearance where they lost to Ohio State.

Given Sims’ willingness to adapt and change positions on the field in college, as well as travel the world to chase his professional dream, I think he will be very successful during his time with the Tigers. Heck, I wouldn’t even be shocked to see him back in Tuscaloosa one day in a coaching role.

It’s official‼️✍️ A multiple time National Champion joins the staff!
