Ozona athletic director and football coach Jarryd Taylor departs

OZONA — Ozona ISD athletic director and football coach Jarryd Taylor accepted a new job as the defensive coordinator at Class 5A Alice in South Texas.

Taylor spent the past five years at the helm in Ozona, compiling a record of 28-26 with four playoff appearances.

Last season, the Lions finished third in District 3-2A Division I with a 7-4 record.

Taylor is an Ozona native, where he played linebacker under his father, Steve Taylor, earning all-state honors from 2000-03. After graduating from Ozona High School in 2004, he attended SMU and then transferred to Hardin-Simmons University to finish his football career.

Taylor also had stops at Brownfield, Coahoma, Colorado City and Midland High before taking the job at his alma mater.
