It’s the way we thought it would go along.
Three-star Cleveland Glenville defensive tackle Jamir Perez has flipped his commitment from the Florida Gators to Ohio State, a place that is a pipeline for the Tarblooders and a destination most felt he would end up in the first place. Instead, Perez shocked everyone by deciding to head south to Gainesville when he committed back in mid-May.
Despite the early word, Larry Johnson and gang never gave up on the Ohio native, and rumblings began to surface that Perez was leaning towards flipping, and that’s exactly what happened on Friday when the announcement was made on social media.
The 6-foot, 4-inch, 360-pounder is a mountain of a prospect and a true nose tackle that could develop into something very special for Ohio State despite having just a 3-star status. Currently, he is ranked as the No. 74 defensive lineman and 679th overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
His commitment gives Ohio State 20 for the class as it looks to put the finishing touches heading into the fall and toward the Early Signing Period in December.
There has been a lot of news with Ohio State football recruiting lately, and it’s been a mixed bag with some good news and plenty of not-so-good news. We’ll continue to keep an eye on what’s happening on the banks of the Olentangy when it comes to luring prospects to play in the Scarlet and Gray.
