Auburn missed out on a pair of 2026 targets Saturday to an SEC rival.
Auburn football missed on a pair of blue-chip recruits from Georgia on Saturday, as they chose an SEC rival.
Four-star tight end Kaiden Prothro and four-star safety Tyriq Green each committed to Georgia on Saturday. The commitments shoot Georgia to No. 2 in 247Sports’ 2026 rankings and to the No. 1 slot in the SEC rankings for the class.
Prothro, a four-star tight end from Bowdon, Georgia, announced his commitment first, choosing Georgia over Auburn, Texas, Florida, and Alabama. Following his announcement, he told Patrick Eidson of Hometown Sports Media that he feels Georgia has the credentials to develop him into an NFL talent.
“The program (at Georgia), the standard, I feel like is a lot like Bowdon,” Prothro said. “The development is unlike no other. They have guys going to (the NFL) every year, and they are going to develop me the best.”
Soon after Prothro’s announcement, Green shared with Hayes Fawcett of Rivals that he is also committing to Georgia. Auburn was in Green’s top three alongside Georgia and Miami, but the Bulldogs won the race for the four-star safety from Buford, Georgia.
Auburn has gained momentum in recruiting by landing five commitments since June 24, but is still working to finalize a top-25 class before the early signing day in December. The Tigers currently boast the No. 78 recruiting class according to 247Sports’ rankings, with nine commitments for the 2026 cycle.
