The Tennessee Volunteers haven’t exactly set the world on fire as far as featuring the tight end position in the offensive game plan during Josh Heupel’s tenure at head coach.
However, that might not be the case in 2025, and Miles Kitselman could be a beneficiary. The senior was listed to the John Mackey Award watch list ahead of the start of the season.
Kitselman, a transfer after the 2023 season from Alabama, had a solid first season in Knoxville for the Big Orange. He led all of Tennessee’s tight ends last year with 301 receiving yards, 4 receiving scores, and 1 rushing touchdown in 13 games. He’s also the third-highest graded returning tight end in the SEC by Pro Football Focus, who gave him a 76.6 mark that was fourth highest on the Vols’ offense last year among all players with at least 170 snaps.
With the Vols’ receiving corps being such an unknown commodity coming into the 2025 season, a step forward in the offense could be coming for Kitselman.
Kitselman isn’t the only player to be named to preseason award watchlists. RBs DeSean Bishop and Star Thomas are on the Doak Walker watch list, Jermod McCoy is on the Jim Thorpe watch list, Arion Carter is on the Butkus watch list, and Max Gilbert is on the Lou Groza watch list. Head coach Josh Heupel is also on the Dodd Trophy watch list.
