Kansas State football head coach Chris Klieman didn’t have to look far to find his new offensive coordinator.
Klieman announced Monday that he has promoted associate head coach/co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Matt Wells to replace Conor Riley as offensive coordinator. Riley left last week to become an offensive line coach with the Dallas Cowboys.
“We are fortunate to have someone experienced on staff in Matt, who I have known for 12-plus years and will seamlessly transition into the offensive coordinator role,” Klieman said in a statement. “He worked closely with Conor last season and had a big part in our offensive production.
“His resume speaks for itself, and his relationship with and development of Avery Johnson and our other quarterbacks will help our offense continue to grow.”
Wells joined the K-State staff last year when offensive coordinator Collin Klein left for a similar position at Texas A&M and took over as quarterbacks coach while also serving as right-hand man for both Klieman and Riley.
