After watching the 2024 season unfold, it is clear that Auburn’s offense needs a shot in the arm in 2025 in order to reach its goal of a winning season and a berth in the College Football Playoff.
Could their top-10 transfer portal haul kickstart the movement? Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports sees that happening.
Myerberg recently included Auburn in his transfer portal rankings, dropping the Tigers at No. 7. The likes of a new quarterback and upgrades to the receiver room as well as the offensive line could propel Auburn to new heights offensively.
This group will help transform the offense. Former Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold is the expected to grab the starting job, though his returns with the Sooners fell short of expectations. Arnold will be able to throw to holdover Cam Coleman and newcomers in Singleton and Wake Forest receiver transfer Horatio Fields. The defensive haul lacks the same type of impactful transfers but has several younger players with the potential to develop nicely, including LSU linebacker transfer Xavier Atkins.
Hugh Freeze and his staff signed 16 transfers as part of their haul, which ranks No. 8 in 247Sports transfer portal rankings. Offensively, quarterback Jackson Arnold, wide receiver Eric Singleton, and tackle Xavier Chaplin are the headliners with wide receiver Horatio Fields and running back Durrell Robinson expecting to be key contributors. Defensive lineman Dallas Walker, cornerback Raion Strader, and linebacker Xavier Adkins will be key players on defense.
Fans will get a first look at these newly acquired transfers when spring practice begins on March 25, concluding April 12 with the annual A-Day game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
