LSU jumped by Big Ten powerhouse in updated 2026 recruiting rankings

LSU football no longer owns the No. 1-ranked 2026 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

The Tigers rank second behind USC, which has seven top-100 prospects in the cycle. The Trojans’ group has 27 commitments, 13 more than any other Power Four program in the country.

Despite ranking second after holding the top spot for months, LSU’s class is in great shape. LSU’s class is loaded at the top with the same total of five-star prospects as the Trojans in wide receiver Tristen Keys and defensive linemen Richard Anderson. 90% of the Tigers’ commitments are blue chips, compared to 54% for USC’s class.

To top it off, 70% of LSU’s 2026 prospects hail from Louisiana. Anderson, along with five four-stars, chose their home state school over a plethora of Power Four offers. They’ll be less likely to flip their decisions based on proximity to home and affinity to the LSU brand. Just 54% of USC’s commitments are from California.

While the recognition that goes along with leading the nation is nice, LSU fans shouldn’t worry about this news. Head coach Brian Kelly’s staff put together one of the best recruiting classes in program history by keeping homegrown talent in the state and hitting on top prospects around the region.
