Texas A&M is still reportedly in the mix for one of the top-ranked defensive prospects in the 2026 recruiting class, as five-star edge Richard Wesley, who is currently committed to Oregon after reclassifying from the 2027 cycle, as he is talented enough to see the field as soon as he signs with a program.
In today’s college football landscape, early commitments hold little meaning outside of legacy-based commitments, and while Wesley sees the Ducks as a viable option right now, On3’s Hayes Fawcett has reported that the elite pass rusher will take four official visits this summer, starting with Oregon on May 30, Texas on June 20, Ohio State on August 30, and Texas A&M during an undetermined time, like in September.
This is significant news for coach Mike Elko and his staff, who were among the early teams to recognize Wesley’s talent. Knowing Oregon’s NIL resources and recent success in recruiting top-ranked prospects at key positions, Texas A&M now has a chance to impress the Chatsworth, California native, who has already taken an unofficial visit to College Station on April 12.
On the field, Wesley’s 2023 season led to his reclassification after recording 50 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks.
According to 247Sports Composite, Wesley is currently positioned as the 14th-ranked prospect in the class, 2nd-ranked edge, and the 3rd-ranked prospect in California.
