Three former LSU football stars made Rivals’ all-time five-star prospects list, released Monday.
Patrick Peterson (No. 16), Derek Stingley (No. 21), and Leonard Fournette (No. 25) earned spots among the top 32. Former USC running back Reggie Bush leads the way at No. 1.
Vince Young (Texas), Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma), Tim Tebow (Florida), and Cam Newton (Florida/Auburn) round out the top five. Twenty-one of the 32 players saw time at an SEC school at some point during their college career. Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is the youngest player on the list, checking in at No. 23.
Peterson came to Baton Rouge as the 2007 cycle’s top-rated cornerback and ended as a three-year starter. He capped his LSU career as the winner of the Bednarik Award and the Thorpe Award as well as earning consensus first-team All-American nods in 2010.
Stingley was the 2019 cycle’s top player. He started all 25 games of his LSU career but his junior year was derailed due to injury. His biggest impact in college was as a true freshman as he started all 15 games and earned consensus All-American status. Stingley’s 2019 campaign was one of the best we’ve ever seen from a true freshman.
247Sports ranked Fournette as the top player in the nation during the 2014 cycle. In 32 games, he rushed for 3,830 yards, good enough for No. 4 all-time in program history. The New Orleans native was a consensus All-American in 2015.
