Nation’s No. 2 recruit LaDamion Guyton announces commitment date

One of the top prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, LaDamion Guyton, is scheduled to announce his college commitment on Aug. 7 at 3:30 p.m.

He is a five-star defensive end from Benedictine Military School is rated a consensus top five player among all recruiting services. The rising junior is ranked as the No. 2 recruit in his class, per the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound edge rusher plays football and track and field. Guyton is the No. 1 recruit in Georgia and the top edge rusher prospect in the nation.

While his final list of schools isn’t public, both Georgia and Texas Tech are considered major contenders. The Bulldogs were the first team to offer him and they’re hoping that early relationship will lead to a commitment. However, Georgia is expected to miss out on Guyton, who is projected to commit to Texas Tech.

Last season he recorde 52 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks in nine games. He is a game-wrecker and can get in the backfield at any time.

Georgia has success recruiting in the Savannah Area natives with the Bulldogs signing Nolan Smith, Kamari Lassiter, Warren Brinson, and now freshman phenom Elijah Griffin. Griffin was Guyton’s former teammate in high school at Savannah Christian. Brinson even went to social media advocating for Georgia to keep Guyton in-state.

Georgia has two commitments in the 2027 class already in four-star corner Donte Wright (Long Beach Poly) and three-star wide receiver Gavin Honore (Mater Dei). Getting Guyton could be a foundation piece to another top five or even top three recruiting class for head coach Kirby Smart.
