Texas A&M’s 2026 recruiting class already includes four-star Chace Collins, who chose the Aggies over Texas Tech earlier this month. Outside of four-star South Carolina-based safety Tamarion Watkins, four-star safety Tylan Wilson, one of the hardest hitters in the cycle out of Mississippi, has received a second prediction to land with Texas A&M, according to Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman.
Wilson had been connected to Clemson during the latter half of his recruitment. Still, after his official visit to College Station, the versatile defensive back feels that Texas A&M’s defense is a perfect fit for his skill set, as coach Mike Elko is well known as one of the nation’s better defensive back developers. However, credit also goes to defensive coordinator Jay Bateman and defensive back coaches Jordan Peterson and Ishmael Aristide.
As I’ve previously stated, landing safety prospects who can cover the deep parts of the field while serving as hybrid linebackers is vital, especially in SEC play, where most programs are capable of both passing and running effectively enough to counter any defensive weakness. Last season, the Aggies’ safety rotation was average at best, primarily due to a lack of symmetry and the introduction of a new defensive system.
If Elko and his staff land Wilson, they have achieved their goal of securing at least two safeties, barring Tamarion Watkins’ decision on July 13.
Standing at 6-2 and 185 pounds, Wilson is currently positioned as Rivals’ 13th-ranked safety, and the 10th-ranked prospect in Mississippi. Wilson will announce his decision on July 18.
