Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders put the Buffaloes back on the national stage, thanks in part to the big names he’s been able to bring to Boulder.
However, not every addition will be a 5-star, and the Buffaloes are gaining depth with the commitment of Kyle Carpenter. Carpenter, a multisport athlete, played football and basketball at Buford High School, one of the top high schools in Georgia. He only played varsity football for two seasons, primarily in backup roles.
Not only a multisport athlete, Carpenter pulled double duty for his football team, playing both cornerback and wide receiver for the Wolves. In his two seasons, Carpenter totaled 161 receiving yards and one touchdown on 11 catches, and eight total tackles on the defensive side.
Carpenter originally committed to Los Angeles Valley College, a junior college, out of high school before announcing his next destination would be in Boulder.
On tape, Carpenter shows flashes of incredible ball skills and fierce tenacity, especially in the run game. He brings great size outside, standing at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds with speed to make defenders miss downfield or catch ball carriers from behind.
It’s not clear what position Carpenter will specialize in as a Buffalo, but he offers intriguing upside at both positions. Colorado could end up being the perfect landing spot for Carpenter, considering Colorado’s coaching staff has experience coaching a talented two-way player in Travis Hunter.
