Deion Sanders highlights revamped running game for Colorado football

At Colorado’s annual Fall Media Day, head coach Deion Sanders previewed what the new look Buffaloes’ offense will look like through the first two weeks of fall camp.

Last year, the Buffs were able to rely on 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders to carry the offensive load. That duo, plus three other NFL-caliber receivers, led Colorado to the top passing offense in the Big 12. However, with all four now gone and a new quarterback under center, Coach Prime has been preaching the significance of the running game. On Friday, he expressed his confidence in the run game.

“Through personnel and commitment…that running game will be impacted, and the commitment we have to the running game this year,” Sanders said. “We can’t just sit back and wait for somebody to magically drive us down the field, we are going to run the darn ball, and we are going to be tremendously physical.”

CU doubled down on that philosophy by hiring Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk as running backs coach, adding portal transfers DeKalon Taylor and Simeon Price and returning Micah Welch and Dallan Hayden. Up front, former five-star tackle Jordan Seaton anchors a bigger, more experienced line.

“This is one of the best looking lines that I’ve seen since I’ve been here,” returning quarterback Ryan Staub said. “I know we have an emphasis of wanting to run the ball and I think we will.”

The Buffs seem committed to the run in the early parts of fall camp, a welcome sight after a 2024 season saw the team go away from the running game too often.
